Honestly, it was just a complete disaster/I'm pretty sure I aged ten years that day/I've never felt so defeated.

Looking back, it’s clear that my decision/choice/action to quit my job/move to another city/invest all my money was a terrible/horrible/disastrous one. At the time, I felt confident/thought I knew what I was doing/believed it was the best choice, but it backfired spectacularly. I lost a lot of money/regret it every day/wish I could take it back. Now, I have a newfound appreciation for careful planning.
